Family Promise in Anoka County
Family Promise in Anoka County (FPAC) provides safe, temporary housing for families that are experiencing homelessness, and gives them the support they need to successfully move into permanent housing. Christ Lutheran is part of FPAC's interfaith hospitality network, 18 local congregations who take turns hosting the families overnight for a week at a time. FPAC is a nationally affiliated non-profit organization. For more information on FPAC, visit www.familypromiseanoka.org
50 - 80 people help out during each of Christ Lutheran's host weeks, which are scheduled about 4 - 5 times per year. For 2013, those weeks are: January 6 - 13, May 19 - 26, August 11 - 18, and November 17 - 24.
There are a large variety of jobs available during a typical host week. You choose the week(s) you want to work. Dinner prep and serving, and evening hosting are great opportunities for families with children to serve together.
All participants are required to attend a one-time training session and have a background check. FPAC's Executive Director schedules training meetings every other month for new host volunteers.
